Explone Crooks
Reviewed June 7, 2005

With Explone's Crooks there are no pretentious lyrics or emotionally demanding tones. This is authentic, pleasant music that will steal the top of your play list and stay there for weeks.

Though the band remains now guitarist and vocalist Patrick Porter, the album was contrived with bassist John Merkel, drummer Josh Williams, and a few tracks with the guest vocal styling of Andrea Maxand.

The music seems heavy-hearted and peaceful like the solace of a distant memory, comforting and happy with a hint of longing that won't wear you down. All are enjoyable tracks, and blend together well while remaining unique. Prevailing over simple rhythms, Patrick's gentle voice carries and controls the melodies smoothly.

While a song or two tend to fade into easy listening background music and fail to be too memorable, the album as a whole is nicely done and holds some gems within it – mainly the popular "Overjoyed" and my personal favorite "The Highest Time". Explone is definitely an artist to watch, don't forget the name Patrick Porter
